Been working with this company that runs this old legacy application, originally written to run under FoxPro for Windows it has been "adapted" to run under VFP6. Works pretty well, one of those apps that if it is not broken why fix it... 8-)
They started reporting issues with their network and issues with their data files, corrupt indexes, failure to lock a record, problems with "access denied". Some really quirky stuff... To add insult to injury when they started to roll out Windows 7 machines the problems got worse! Just got an email from this person saying that they had disabled opportunistic locking and that seemed to resolve these issues. Then went on to say that new versions of SAMBA had better record locking etc.... Which seemed to indicate he is running a SAMBA drive? Why would you use SAMBA, all of his servers are Windows servers, SAMBA is primarily a Linux product isn't it? At least a way to share files in a "mixed environment"... Any thoughts? Opinions?
