While I like the convenience of remaining in the VFP IDE, I really like the discipline it enforces around checking out code before I start messing about with it. I don't have to stop to remind myself to check anything out; it just happens as part of the process of modifying whatever through the PM UI. Performance is not really an issue on a decent LAN. For WAN access I also still use SourceGear's SOS client which makes VSS much more usable.
-- rk Hi Richard: I've used VSS integration with VFP from late 90's, so I really understand the difficulty of leaving it go :-) But guess what? You can live without it. I've tried, and it was a costly change, specially the change of mind because you develop in the IDE and checkin/checkout on another tool feels "strange" :) With some practice and open mind I've realized that was not so difficult at the end, and that the project (pjx) opens really fast without the SCM integration. The really hard part, is changing your mind about the file "blocking". You first think you "need it", you can't live without seen "who have this file checked out?" Didn't you? :-) At a short time without VSS, I've appreciated the value of "not blocking" files, so developers can work at the same time in any component. It's really a challenge. _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: ProFox@leafe.com Subscription Maintenance: http://mail.leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://mail.leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/DF1EEF11E586A64FB54A97F22A8BD04423C3637250@ACKBWDDQH1.artfact.local ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
