I use regular Ubuntu with the phone-home aspect of the search turned off. I did try Mint but (at the time at least) the way you did a version upgrade was to back up your stuff, reinstall the new version from scratch, and restore your stuff. Um, no thanks. That may have changed though. I did also try OpenSUSE which was OK but in terms of polish etc is nowhere near the Debian-related distros. IMO.
