Just had to roll back Windows 10 on a client's machine to 8.1 as he had
upgraded it last weekand found that his email send using authenticated SMTP
stopped working. I had tried last week to get it working but to no avail and
finally got him to bring in the laptop for remedial action. My ISP
(Simplynames.com) reported that they have had hundreds of people with the same
problem since Windows 10 roll out. The suggested fix by Microsoft is to run the
DOS admin command "sfc /scannow". Running this found a few files that were
corrupted and proceeded to replace them but the Email still didn't work so I
ended up rolling it back (luckily you have 30 days to do this from an update)
and then had to re-install Office 2007 and reset up the email accounts before
it worked again without problem.

Evidently M$ have also emailed people about the bug on their Microsoft account
.... However, seeing as how the receive function of the email sometimes hoses
itself as well, and seemingly at random according to SimplyNames) I don't know
how many people will see it. There is no timescale for a patch for the problem
so I would advise those of you who want to upgrade to do so with care!

Nice one M$.

Dave
