Still holding out for "The One" keeping an eye out for bargains as the
new season of units arrives

I'll likely get a Lenovo T450 or 550 with:

1) i5 processor, as i3 is too little and i7 adds expense without much
improvement
2) 8 or 16 Gb of RAM because RAM is cheap and VMs eat it like candy
3) 256 Gb SSD for the OS because they are fast and well supported
4) A second HDD for data and bulk that doesn't need speed 500 Gb +
5) 15.4 screen and 1920 x 1080, for reasonable bulk and tired old eye
and plenty of room for VFP widgets.
6) Intel GPU as the nVidia GPUs are notoriously hard to support on an
Open Source platform. If you're a gamer or pure Windows guy, or don't
care about the licensing/ install hassles in Linux, the nVidia's a
higher-performance GPU, go for it.

Lenovo has been *awful* for including spyware on their machines, so
I'll likely do a full Freemanize (tm) down to removing the EFI
spyware, and install Linux as my primary OS and Windows something in a
VM, and Linux is my primary OS these days.

Why Lenovo? They still have the best combination keyboard, pointing
stick, trackpad set in the industry, and I spend a lot of time typing,
and haven't found any of the others match it.
