So, I gave up waiting for Lenovo to fix their many spyware issues and get a machine in my price range.
>From the Dell Outlet, I ended up with a Dell Inspiron 15, i5, 1920x1080, 12 Gb RAM, Intel GPU, 1 Tb HDD for $619, free shipping. It's got a touch screen, which is pretty much wasted on me, and a flatish keyboard and one-piece touchpad-mousebuttons. I'll see if I can get used to those or if I go back to an external keyboard & mouse. I've got a day of backups and then see what sort of arcane gymnastics I need to do to unlock the machine and get Linux installed as the primary OS.
