It's not positions on issues per se, but the mindlessness of the
pounding rants. Enough already! And when I think that this junk has kept
others from contributing their thoughts, displaced them as it were, it's
all the more aggravating.

I truly hope that people see through their garbage. More than once I've
had to spend time posting to defend a previously stated point of view
from yet another attack from another angle. I didn't mind at first, but
then it went on and on, endlessly. It's like some kind of 'raging bull'
tactic, where the winner is the one who must keeps coming back and back
until everyone leaves or gets worn down. This forum has suffered from
the loss of interesting people at the hand of their spewing, and I think
that's bad.

A comment: We don't have any native Americans on this list, that I know
of, so we'll all of foreign descent. I know that my own ancestors were
from Europe; others from other cultures around the world. We are truly a
melting pot, if nothing else. What made us special, once upon a time,
was that we held certain ideals above all else, and we were brought up
to believe the rest of the world admired us for it. As you can see,
we've lost huge ground in this area, and one reason for that is that we
have goons who take the right of free speech to mean people want to
listen to their crap over and over, ad nausea.

Ed has done so much for us that we can't reasonably ask him to do
another thing.

Okay, here's one suggestion, what I think Jack Welch would do: poll and
chop. That is, he'd poll his managers to rank their people by their
'value to the enterprise' - and then summarily chop off the bottom part
of the list, the people who are not performing.

He would rationalize this with (a) these people aren't right for this
job and should be doing something else anyway, (b) it sends a powerful
message to the company: that good people don't have anything to worry
about, but those who are just passing time should keep their resumes
current, and (c) it makes the company more productive overall by
reminding everyone to pay attention to the company's goals.

Correct me if I'm wrong here, but isn't it our goal to share and learn
together? We are builders, right? Prodding, challenging and controversy
are good things, but pounding garbage into our mailboxes is just an
aggravating waste of everyone's time.

I wonder if anyone has software to do this kind of polling? I'd think
such a product would sell to businesses who don't have it as well. In
fact, if I weren't already out of investment money, I would do it
myself. I can see a way to do it that would be simple and to the point.
