I thought most of the reason that people post in OT was cause they :
1. found nice sparring partners for debate
2. were alone most of the time and could use PF for venting or keeping in
touch
3. were lonely and didn't know about blogspot or blogger
4. had nothing better to do with their time.
But - specifically on Madigan and Dr. T - it's a bit more skewed.
[Nota Bene, these are not attacks, just observations]
Dr. T first -
He's a great guy, but is not a developer. He wants to have a program
completed in VFP 5 based on an unfinished design. He hangs out here
mostly cause he's lonely and had to do something other than LEARN VFP.
He's an older fella, closer to your age than mine, and has as many
different views on life as YOU do, and is prone to share them out of
boredom and the inability to get his program finished.
I really think if someone would actually mentor him daily for 2 weeks, he
could get over the hump and finish his VFP program, and move on. As it
is, he's stuck and has been stuck for a bit. Failing a mentoring partner,
perhaps someone would just take over his program and finish it - should
take about 6 weeks, including testing.
I think if someone took Dr. T under their wing, his OT posts would
diminish to zero, as he would not have any time for posting anymore. (yes,
the new app would be done in VFP 9, btw)

Now on to Madigan .
Do you remember Tom Gahaghan? Tommie G? He had posted a lot in the OT
section over on TechRepublic news server, before it went away. Madigan is
the spitting image of Tommmie G
He likes to attack in OT, because he is missing out on a full life outside
of his keyboard, just like Tommie G.
Tommie G finally cratered, and (bless his soul) has been in rehab the last
28 months in Georgia. I hope he recovers fully, as his programming skills
were stellar.
Madigan, OTOH, will not make an attack based on facts, but his own
opinions. That's an approved type of debating style, but does it work
here? If it were highly inflammatory 100 percent of the time, then maybe
it would be an indication that something is busted inside, similar to the
previously mentioned Tommie G. But, not all of his posts are highly
inflammatory.
I don't know what to do about Madigan except to start a 'Phone Michael'
campaign. But his phone number is not listed (I searched) and it's not
posted on any web space he frequents (I searched). I feel if 5 people
called him and confronted him via telephone in a direct fashion, causing
one-to-one communication, he would back off. Sending an email doesn't
work, cause its only one-way communication then, and it feeds his ego to
'get an email about him'.
Oh well - good luck with those 2. Different backgrounds, totally differnt
style of writing, and absolutely different methods for 'fixing' them.
