I think in all honesty for all but a few niche applications dot matrix is an anachronistic total pain in the arse and should be dispensed with. Life is so much simpler without having to fight with defining custom paper sizes for cheques, print carriage position, alignment, glacial print speeds and so on. And then all of that going out the window when a server or workstation upgrade happens and having to be redone.
When we went to the current version of our product about 15 years ago almost of our customers changed to laser if they weren't on it already. The few that didn't were a continual firefighting exercise revolving round the items mentioned above. Spend the money on a laser printer that isn't some 29.99 piece of shit loss leader designed to sell toner cartridges.
