I've been doing a lot of my work on a laptop lately, too. I have a newer
machine and discovered that when I had a power outage and it switched to
battery it would disable my NIC and then refuse to reconnect it when the
power came back on. What a pain!

Why on EARTH would Microsoft decide that was a good default setting for a
new laptop computer?
