Hi Mike, I can't think of a single scenario where I would recommend non-SSD storage for a developer workstation ... unless high performance is giving you motion sickness and you want to intentionally slow down. Or you were my direct competitor.
If you're upgrading your laptop, why not consider a MacBook Pro? The higher price is offset by the extra productivity and quality of life.
