We run with:
1. A three node cluster on 3 leg Gigabit fibre LAN with dual fibre on each of
the 3 legs for backup. Switches auto route all traffic
down the lan according to the data workload at the time of any requests and
will reroute traffic automatically in the case of a fibre fault.

2. Veeam Enterprise which constantly backs up our servers so we can restore
back to any point in the last 6 months for data storage as well as Outlook
emails. The nice thing about Veeam is that you can open archived postboxes and
look at their content to investigate any potential trojans/viruses.

3. two x Sonicwall boxes to act as advanced firewalls for access to/from the
big wide world, keeping out all the bad guys.

4. Microsoft Snapshotting of all the VM's (25 in total) once every 30 minutes
so we can recover any of the 20 VM's on request up to 30 days old
The total

5. SQL Server Mirroring with auto failover and manual fail back to/from another
cluster of backup machines in real time.
Mirroring is soon to be updated to run SQL Clustering once our tests have
proved it is resilient enough to support our 17Tb of live data

6. Total lockdown on all PC's disallowing all USB/CD devices to be used without
authorisation.

Backup disaster recovery is practiced at least once a month by dropping one
node in the cluster whilst running live with no prior warning to the end users
so we are fairly robust in the security department and we know the auto
recovery/fail back systems all work as they should.

As they say once bitten twice shy, been there working 60 hours flat out to
resurrect a dead system and never want to revisit that scenario!

Subject: Re: Wonder if this ransomware attack in Atlanta was involving any VFP
files?

We had a senior VP open an invoice that he shouldn't have and one of those
started ripping through our space. We were lucky and found it early because a
compromised machine no longer was doing what it should. We were very lucky.

Since then we have a different backup solution, a functioning DR solution and
ability to run our network from an ATT cloud source like it was here.
Or so we think.....

We have tested many parts of the solution but never a true turnover to it.
Yeah, will hate that weekend.

So what is your DR situation like? Is your data off of your network as well as
on it in backups? Ransomware doesn't give a flip if it is your backup files
with "file security" or not.
