I wasn't disagreeing with you and it may well be worth it in a corporate
environment. I was just looking at the fact that I run two MySQL servers in
my SMALL business and I was thinking about the pricing in terms of spending
the money out of my own pocket.

I currently use Uptime Robot to monitor responsiveness on a Web server,
remote backup server, MySQL, email server, etc. I pay for SMS credits (I
think I get about 50 credits for $25 or so). Anytime something isn't
responsive or is locked up, I get a text message and it works pretty well.

What can I say? I'm tight. :)

I went to look at the pricing and this is pretty cheap. At 299.00 a year
to identify what is holding up the process and or what is actually locked
this moment is a STEAL. Tell me your billable rate and now how fast do you
think you could find this data about a DB or a server you are using?

I take care of 3 servers that maintain 220 databases where a process in one
db makes calls to other dbs for relevant data all the time. I have queries
in SQL server that give me a tiny bit of this data but it took a long time
to identify what I wanted to extract for value. In mySQL I don't know if
they have this "dynamic management views and or funtions" data available on
what is happening in real time. This tool gives a LOT MORE

--Detail to find all the tables which are being locked currently along with
duration since it is being locked.
SELECT
Locks.request_session_id AS SessionID,
Obj.Name AS LockedObjectName,
DATEDIFF(second,ActTra.Transaction_begin_time, GETDATE()) AS Duration,
ActTra.Transaction_begin_time

FROM    sys.dm_tran_locks Locks
JOIN sys.partitions Parti ON Parti.hobt_id =
Locks.resource_associated_entity_id
JOIN sys.objects Obj ON Obj.object_id = Parti.object_id
JOIN sys.dm_exec_sessions ExeSess ON ExeSess.session_id =
Locks.request_session_id
JOIN sys.dm_tran_session_transactions TranSess ON ExeSess.session_id =
TranSess.session_id
JOIN sys.dm_tran_active_transactions ActTra ON TranSess.transaction_id =
ActTra.transaction_id
WHERE   resource_database_id = db_id() AND Obj.Type = 'U'

order by 3 desc
