FWIW, and this isn't a 'hey other OSes have a problem too' post ... the old PIII that I have Ubuntu on will only read Ubuntu images burned at 4x speed. They work fine in every other box, just this particular one will get halfway through a Ubuntu install and decide it can't read the CD.
