I live in Mississippi in the deep South and there are actually a lot of things in Southern culture that hearken back to the England, Scotland and Ireland. Lots of folks descended from immigrants from those areas.
My family on my Grandma's side came to the US from Scotland way back in the day and moved to South Mississippi back when it belonged to Spain. My family is a real mixing pot of influences and we've been here for quite a while! I relish the fact that after just turning sixty, I can still rattle off that poem that I learned as a little boy and every time I do it reminds me of my grandma reciting it to me word for word to help me learn it. :) Paul H.
