Actually, I think you are incorrect in the above premise. As I recall, Islam embarked upon a series of conquests shortly after (and perhaps during) Mohammed's life. They did indeed conquer a great deal of the Middle East by killing anyone that did not convert to Islam. Those actions, probably more than any other, are at the very core of the hatred between the peoples of the Middle even today. I don't necessarily believe the religion itself is the root cause of the violence, although the Koran (Qur'an) and Hadith writings imply killing non-believers is acceptable or proper. Like anything else in the world, greedy, power-hungry individuals will grab onto anything to unify people and manipulate them. This may have been what happened in Islam early on. Again, if I recall correctly, there were a couple key Muslim attacks on Europe which failed basically because the leading 'Sultan' of that time died. In any event, Muslims initially did not get 'stirred up' by the West. -Charlie _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
