Heya Mike_Mad -

The Eid_al_Adha Festival is pretty special if you are a Muslim.
In SE Asia, it's called Hari Raya and is celebrated throughout the region.

Many well-to-do Muslim families invite everyone out for the sacrifice,
give the meat away, and then there's a private party with lots of prepared
food.

When I lived on the Little Red Dot, I went to 2 Hari Raya gatherings, one
at a Mosque and one at a private family dwelling. I am of the opinion
that there is a huge difference between a sacrificial slaughter done badly
(perhaps the thing you are complaining about?) and one done properly (the
two that I personally witnessed). I have this opinion because of the
multitude of reports about men, who as head of their household, botched it
with the animal taking a long time to die, and never knew how to properly
carve up the carcass afterwards (for the majority of them, it was their
first time to do the sacrifice, and they were hundreds of miles away from
an Iman who holds the 'how-to' classes at the mosque, prior to the start
of this festival).

It is NOT supposed to be a 'beat the animal cause it's fun' kinda activity.
It's part of a religious ceremony, quite somber.

I do wonder about your post, though - are you *_that_* culturally
insensitive?

On a lighter note - please don't forget the cargo boat full of wandering
ship from a few years back that Daryl and Daryl were trying to save. Those
sheep were supposed to get from Australia to UAE for Eid_al_Adha Festival,
and UAE refused them at the port for some silly reason (the wholesale
buyer backed out, refused to pay), then they wandered around the Middle
East and SE Asia for a month, all on their own little Hajj.

Happy Hari Raya!!! [Bill]
