If that were true talk therapy would never work. I had a 2 year battle with major depression back in the early 90's, and Steve has been fighting chronic major depression his entire life. People can learn to cope with the stuff in their heads. It takes a lot of work, but there are ways to cope with severe depression both with and without medication. I was medicated for about two years and have not been on antidepressants now for the last 14 years. Steve has been able to be off meds for about 10 years now. One of our best presidents -- Lincoln -- battled chronic major depression most of his adult life. There were no miracle meds back then.
