Ran into a problem yesterday that might affect others, so will mention. I'm using the MS Virtual Earth mapping service (customized based on Dave Crozier's example), and it worked fine, but this week my customer started getting 'access denied' messages when using it.
Yesterday we sorted it out. Turns out that he had installed IE7, for whatever reason, since he actually uses FireFox and not IE, and that was causing the problem. By trial and error, we finally figured out that the access denied problem went away when we set IE7 as the default browser. After making this change, we changed again to make FireFox the default browser, and the fix persisted, so we thought 'problem solved'. However, we then found that when FireFox is running on the machine, attempts to obtain maps resulted in the access denied problem re-appearing. Shutting down FireFox (without changing the default browser again; thus leaving FireFox as the default browser) was the solution. Lessons learned: 1. FireFox cannot be running when the mapping service is accessed (and IE7 is installed). 2.
