The hierarchically arranged image galleries on my stockpix.com website are served as static html pages that were generated by a foxpro program I (mostly) wrote. The program uses a fine Italian utility that recursively grabs the image file names in a tree of subdirectories, my program then massages the data and mirrors all the subdirectories with html gallery pages and makes an individual html image page for each image. The program generates all the links up and down the tree hierarchy. It is presently kicking out over 2000 image pages each run. The wonderful thing about the system is that I can completely redesign the website just by moving images from one subdirectory to another with file manager or an image browser like breeze browser. Then it is a simple button click in foxpro and a massive ftp job. I have incorporated the image ftp functions into a foxpro program to avoid re upping everything and since the images are all served from a single images directory. I have not automated the upload of the html pages since it is very straightforward with an external ftp program and it is more reliable to simply overwrite all the html. I use a somewhat similar programmatic method to data enter new image files by grabbing the directory and file names and massaging these into a bevy of tables and finally renaming all existing instances of an image to the number assigned to it in the database. Probably more than anyone wanted to know. BOOKS I've used blurb.com for the production of photo books.
