I think the actual pattern of action at MSFT is to deny the problem, then blame someone else, then call the customer stupid, then fix it in a slipstream but don't tell anyone, then release the fix on patch Tuesday, then release a fix for the bugs in the original fix, and then tell everyone how insecure Linux is because 19 different distros had the same (never exploited) vulnerability, which means that Linux has 19 holes and IE only has 17.
