It's always worth benchmarking a solution before you go to a lot of
trouble to construct a more complex solution that turns out not to
save you any time or resources whatsoever. That's "premature
optimization."

That said, I've solved this in the past by creating a temp file on the
remote server, uploading the 50 local records to the temp table, then
doing the join on the remote server and downloading the result.
