I fail to comprehend the mindset of someone who can't you involve
themselves in a discussion without taking it down to a personal level. 

It really must be some major insecurity that if you aren't bashing
someone you aren't getting some sort of sexual kick.

How does a discussion about the merits of wired or wireless home
networking necessitate you discussing the genetics of my children?

It doesn't, it's not necessary and it certainly isn't big....
