I like Alan's suggestions - to which I'd add - buy him a cheap return flight to Bombay (asap 'cos it's too hot / wet by early May) - if he's smart he'll be able to get a few days in Goa topping up his tan/ beer and then buy all the books he needs in Bombay on the way back (just about every computer title imaginable is available, including gaming stuff, for a fraction of the UK prices).
