A recent online petition in UK against road pricing made the government
think very hard. As a result the almost 2 million signatories each received
an email from President Tony Blair explaining how he couldn't really think
of anything better (well, something like that). It also made them realise
that 2 million votes could be the difference between winning and losing the
next election!

It also made a number of Labour politicians regret setting up the online
petition system!
