I'll tell you what not to do. My ex and I did the same thing. For a lot of years, anytime my kids needed something, they got it.
Then one day I get a letter from the state of maine wanting 30,000. I said whats this ? I pay my child support to my ex. They said you have to pay it to us and I said no I don't because my divorce papers stated that I paid it to her. Come to find out, if your ex signs up for afdc or anything, the state gets involved. I couldn't produce receipts because my ex and I got along, so I never bothered to keep track of it. Whatever you do, save your receipts until your children are 20 or so, whatever the legal age is so that you don't get in the mess I'm in. Because it's a big mess that can't be solved short of winning some money in the lottery or getting some really good bucks going again. Wife wants child support for our 2 kids and suggested that we work up a figure outside of the courts, as that'd probably be better for both of us. I'm all for paying my fair share for the kids (but not 1 freakin' penny for her own use/gain), but I'm not sure how one determines what that payment amount should be? For those of you who've gone through this crap, any advice? I could send it through the lawyer, but of course that legal bill sucks at $175/hr. tia! --Mike [excessive quoting removed by server] _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[EMAIL PROTECTED] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
