Hi Judith, The issue here is the FetchedAsNeeded and FetchSize of each view. It sounds like one or more of the views has FetchedAsNeeded set to .T. and there is significant data to be queried. If you set all the views to have FetchedAsNeeded to .F. or FetchSize to -1, and share the connection you will get "single-threaded" queries for the different views in the form. You will avoid the error. Your approach with the second connection is the appropriate approach if you need background fetching and want to avoid the error.
Things to consider: 1) Each connection to the SQL Server will use memory on the server side. There are also licensing implications with the connections depending on the SQL Server implementation. In the case of SQL Server 2005 Express this will not impact your decision since the licensing is a non-issue and there are no governing throttles based on connections like there were in MSDE 2000. 2) Users might want all the data when making business decisions so having the query continue in the background might lead to bad analysis. On the other hand, if your queries take a long time and the data is not critical to decisions then it might be better to go with the background fetch. I created three remote views all using the same shared connection. Then I used two of the views in a form. When I added the third view I got a connectivity error "connection is busy with results for another command" So I created a new connection and used the new connection for the third view and then it worked fine. My question is that I have many tables and views in my database (at least 30) of which many views may be open at one time so is there a problem with using many connections?
