I decided to try postGIS by working through the example in the link posted towards the bottom of this post, and postGIS worked fine. The most difficult part of working through the example was configuration. If anyone would like to give postGIS a try, I would be happy to answer any questions. I installed everything and performed the example completely in Windows XP Pro, running in a VMware virtual machine under under FC6 (eg it was all done in Window XP Pro).
If you decide to try postGIS, I would avoid installing the Windows PostgreSQL version 8.2, and install PostgreSQL 8.1 instead. Under my system the Windows 8.2 version of PostgreSQL would not install and always resulted in a roll back, but the directories created became inaccessible due to permission problems, so I can even delete them. http://unserializableone.blogspot.com/2007/02/using-postgis-to-find-points-of.html Regards, LelandJ _______________________________________________ Post Messages to: [email protected] Subscription Maintenance: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profox OT-free version of this list: http://leafe.com/mailman/listinfo/profoxtech Searchable Archive: http://leafe.com/archives/search/profox This message: http://leafe.com/archives/byMID/profox/[EMAIL PROTECTED] ** All postings, unless explicitly stated otherwise, are the opinions of the author, and do not constitute legal or medical advice.
