Hi Ricardo!

"America" is an idiom in the US for "The United States of America". It is only 
recently that the countries you mentioned were part of the everyday 
consciousness here, for a number of reasons.

When we want to say "Canada" we say "Canada", and so on. It is likely that 
some of the linguistic short cuts commonly used in these countries you 
mention could be construed by US citizens as dismissive or derogatory as 
well.
