Unless Linda decides to get into video editing or some other
processor-intensive activity, I think this is one of the least crucial
parts of the machine. More RAM, more disk and especially a nice,
large, clear, high-quality display is important. Which brand name is
on the CPU is pretty uninteresting.

'Course if you want to run Xen on it in a couple of years if you swap
the machine for another, that would be a different question. But it
sounds like you want to give her a machine and not work on it for the
better part of a decade.
