I had a client with a similar "big board" for keeping track of scheduled "jobs".
We took a run at it in a grid...and... I told them that doing it on the big board on the wall with sticky post-its was the BEST way to do the job. Unless your client is having problems with their manual system...Some things SHOULDN'T be automated whether they can be or not... My 2 pfennings.
