I have to admit that my thoughts would be along similar lines - if they
won't sell me what I need then how can they blame me for just using it!

I think that you can buy a Vista licence and then use it to run XP (assuming
you have the CD of course).  I don't know what would happen about the keys
and activation though.  Certainly when we needed to buy a copy of VFP 5
after VFP 6 was released that was what M$ advised us to do.  IIRC there was
an incompatibility with our software and VFP 6 which wasn't present with VFP
5 - I can't remember the details.
