Michael,
That's not totally true. I was picked on by a bully when I was about 10. My
father was an Amateur Boxing champion in the army and told me the old
chestnut about bullies don't like to be hurt and that if you hit them they
will back down etc etc.

So I tried what he said on day when I had had enough and whacked the guy on
the nose "just like my dad said" - he just looked at me with blood spurting
from his nose and then proceeded to give me the biggest thrashing he could.
So much for the information and advice!

I did learn three important lessons though:

1. If you give your best shot and it doesn't work then be prepared to
run...quickly. If you don't, prepare for a good kicking.

2. Never trust advice from someone who doesn't really understand your
situation - even if it is your dad.

3. He who fights and runs away...lives to fight another day.

4. The guys who are fitter and bigger are usually dumber and slower so fight
them on your own terms with cunning and guile. He never did know who stole
the wheels off his bike. <BG>

That's what most people forget. The bully doesn't
want to feel pain either. Break a finger on him and
he'll leave you alone.

Unfortunately today's bully is armed.
