All in all I feel compelled to have a client be aware of a series of
potential solutions, recommend the most sensible ones from a performance and
cost perspective, then let them decide. If they opt to go with a plan that
is not sensible I prefer to not have my fingerprints on it. There is enough
good business out there to let me choose to work with folks willing to
invest once, not buy twice (or more). One of my attorneys told me he had a
favorite way to providing clients with food for thought (he used to own a
software firm). "Do you want a solution that is fast, stable or cheap.
Pick two!" I have found that is a good place to start when opening
discussions.
