The demand for petrol is beginning to far exceed world supply via 
production.  China is a rapidly developing country and emerging out of a 
kind of third world status.  As more and more Chinese find the means to 
afford autos, the pressure from the increase demand for gasoline is 
reflected in increase prices at the pump, due to limited supplies.  
Also, more populations mean more people driving car, more people burning 
gasoline, more CO2 gas in the atmospheres, which trap and hold more heat 
against the earth, more climate change, more global warming, etc.
