Don't know how you can change this as I think that it is application driven,
but have you looked at MyUninstaller

http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/myuninst.html

which is slicker quicker and most of all free. It allows you to uninstall
any applications that still appear in the list but have actually been
uninstalled unsuccessfully.
