There are several alternatives when it come to diesels. About 40% of
gas stations offer petrol based diesels, which will run in any diesel
engine and is legally taxed. Then there are service stations that sell
commercial grade biodiesel made from plants like soybean (eg B5, B20 or
even B100). This kind of service station diesels is taxed and legal,
just like petrol diesels, and will run in any diesel engine without
modification or minnor midification. However, there are not many
filling station that specialize in selling commerical grade biodiesel
made from plants, so it harder to find a station, but the number of
stations selling B5, B20, B100, etc is on the increase.

Then there is the biodiesel created by the home brewer, which is made
from used cooking oil. This kind of biodiesel require a special kit be
installed in the auto to handle the fuel, and this kind of fuel is
usually not taxed, so technically, its illegal. The different kits all
provides some way to heat the home brewed cooking oil, before it is
used, so it will flow through the fuel lines and spray into the engine
cylinder in a fine mist for efficient ignition. The problem with home
brewed fuel is it tend to jell in cooler weather and must be heated to
increase viscosity, and the state could become threatened, because like
moonshine, the state insists on having her share of the pie via the tax.

AS far as I know you could go to the grocery store and by cooking oil
that would work just fine in a diesel engine. If this is not correct,
please inform.

LelandJ
