Oops. Missed that response before.

I believe I did (i.e. hoped I'd never have to go to XP). In fact, I really
hate the XP boxes I have to work on right now. But I do get a kick out of
unplugging the network cable every now and then and watch which process
crash because they can't communicate any more (processes which I never
approved to be running). Hmm... I wonder... Vista has all that user
'allow/deny' crap... For those that have been using it, do those messages
come up even for Microsoft software? (e.g. the OS processes, not just the
applications).

Oh well, my move to Linux has been very slow. I'm having a hard time
getting motivated for anything in the computer world lately. Just too many
idiots and lemmings to deal with. And, what's worse, they don't even seem
to have a desire to understand things. That's nuts! For IT folks it's
supposed to by your JOB. Like at once site they sent out an email
recommending Firefox be uninstalled because it had some potential security
vulnerabilities. So I checked things out: turns out there were about 7:
only 1 critical and it was actually a problem with Java vice Firefox but
the Firefox folks thought it would be better to list it so that people
would know. The version of IE at that site currently has over 100 potential
vulnerabilities (I was laughing too hard to go count how many were
critical). Anyway, I pointed this out to the IT group at that site. Their
rather muted response was that they keep up with MS patches (of course, if
they would have read the site ref I sent them they'd have seen even with
patches the count was over 100). <sigh>

The good news is I've gotten others off Windows and they're doing great.
Yeah I lost a little business because of it, but I'm very happy for those
folks. My main client is, unfortunately, a Windows-only shop and they're
really tasking me heavily (not all of it with productive work, mind you).
But there are 1 or 2 key folks at that site that are beginning to grumble
about the crap MS is doing. They contract a lot of their IT stuff out and
the contract will expire in a year or so. There may be a chance coming up
to get them to switch (still be a tough sell though - Federal Agency - hard
to get anyone to even appear to take a 'risk'). And heck, now that MS isn't
continuing VFP anymore I have a vested interest in getting the clients off
Windows.

Oh well, if I had 40 hours in a day I think I'd be able to switch to Linux
a lot quicker. :)

Oh darn. You're right Whil. They did promise that didn't they. I'm glad you
reminded me. I feel much, much better now. NOT!
