When Blackstone Data Systems closed, I was hired at U.S. DataCenters
by the original owner as one of the Directors, one tier down from the
boss. By the time I started (a couple months later after finishing
Essential SourceSafe), the VCs had taken over and installed an entire
layer of Vice Presidents between the managers and their appointed CEO,
CTO and CFO. It took them less than a year to shutter the business
(See "Dot Com Bomb" and "Burn Rate") and lay off nearly all the
employees. I was brought back in as a consultant to finish what I
started. Ted Roche and Associates, LLC was formed on this day,
Independence Day, July 4th, 2001.

Six years later, I can't imagine operating any other way.

Happy Fourth!
