True, they will be overwritten when I install later versons of VFP anyway so
those aren't a big deal.

I ended up copying the Visual Studio directory from my 'old' machine, and
just installing the vfp6ps5 runtimes from prolib.de.    Seems to be working
fine, plus I get to keep most of my existing settings when keeping the
foxuser table.

Tracy's idea of using a VM was one I hadn't thought of, I use VMs anyway so
it wouldn't have been difficult.  In this case the code and data are on a
slow netowrk, so adding another layer would have driven me crazy... not like
that would be a long drive.

You don't need to install it. It will work anyway. Well not 
associations or F1-help etc, but that would be associated with the 
latest installed VFP-version anyway...
