To answer your original question....

We are looking at dumping all our desktops and going w/ thin clients or 
laptops. We hooked up wattage meters to a lot of our equipment and found 
out that our HP laptops draw only 3 watts when in sleep mode...

And they're portable of course, so they could be taken to the "survival 
house"... what you'd hook them up to or talk to is another story though...
