Not really, I guess that the virus is simply embedded in an .exe, email or
similar and simply looks for anything with a .DBF file extension which it
would then open as a file and rewrite the crap back to the disk.

Effectively there is nothing that you could do in VFP apart from maybe
keeping the file open to deter exclusive access.

Would using Database Events (in VFP8/9) prevent this from happening, 
assuming you utilized the dbcBeforeOpenTable event to prevent access if 
a special object/variable/property didn't exist?
