Medicine is one of the areas that should be subsidized by the government. It should not be a for-profit endeavor. The for-profit stuff should be the exception (e.g. cosmetic surgery) rather than the rule. Imagine if every road in the country were a toll road, run by for-profit companies. The nation would be crushed under the weight of collecting fees every time people went somewhere, and roads would only be built for places that wealthy folks wanted to drive. They'd go where they wanted but workers wouldn't be able to get to work.
