Heya MB - Good, I'm glad you're checking the postings there. Personally, I would rather stay in a house than stay in some extended hotel space.
Sure, there's pros and cons on both sides, but the most obvious to me is the cost. If you are still in an 'economize' mode, renting a room in a house makes a lot of sense. You'll probably need to get a bed and some furniture, so it's an up front higher cost than the first week of an extended stay facility, but hey - folks post that stuff FS on CL as well. I tend to gravitate towards places that have internet access and air conditioning, then drill down to find locations close to the work (if the posters don't list an address, at least ask them for the cross streets and a zip code, look it up on http://maps.yahoo.com and get the distance and driving directions to your place of work. IMO, shorter drives are better. Also, if yer interested, matriculate for one class at the local university, for an evening lecture. Doesn't matter what it is. Then you have a student ID, and can get in for the semester and use the campus facilities (library for research, gymnasium for exercise, ad.naseum) Another great 'pro' for staying in a home revolves around 'not packing up' for each weekend trip. You have a safe place to leave your stuff for the weekend. Good Luck with the search.. CL rocks.
