When skydiving you can in fact reach a vertical velocity of about 153 mph
maximum if you use a technique called tracking. This involves streamlining
yourself into a head down pencil shape with arms at the side.

However, your horizontal component will be considerably more than this - as
I discovered to my cost many years ago as I headed out over open water at a
vast rate of knots and struggled to get back over terra firma!

It is stupid but the bullets do not come down with the same force that they 
go up due to air resistance. The Mythbusters show demonstrated this with 
pennies dropped from a high building. No matter how high the building, the 
pennies always landed with the same speed and force. The force was not 
enough to cause any damage other than a little pain if they hit their heads.

The principle is called "terminal velocity". People jumping out of airplanes

reach about 100 mph and never fall any faster as the height is increased.
