Peter,
Expensive? Well not really. I reckon that I only spent as much as in Prague
last year Apart from the airfare £500 as opposed to £120. The hotel was $74
a night (excellent standard) with the cost being for a room no per person
and the earlybird conference was about $200 (I think). Eating out is "for
nothing" compared to the UK and car hire for the 5 days about $140 with
petrol at about £1.30 per gallon (and they complain it is too dear!!) so I
was pleasantly impressed.

I'll certainly go again next year if Kevin organises the event and it was
great to put a face to lots of the guys on the list. The sessions were all
excellent and well presented and more in number than Prague, where the
single "English track" reduces the number of sessions you can attend by two
thirds. Having said that, Prague is excellent value for money, but this year
I couldn't really see anything on the agenda that was new or useful.

Finally, whilst I'm on the subject of the conference, congratulations to
Kevin and his family for organising an excellent conference and putting in
more work than many people who simply turn up are aware of.

The only downside was that somewhere along the line my credit card number
got skimmed and they tried to take £20,000 of online bets out of my account
(I should have that much in there!!!). The scammers failed in their attempt,
but the card ended up being blocked (somewhat in inconvenient) but sorted
out by the helpful hotel staff.

As most people say, at least try and make one of the conferences per year as
the sessions and the after session community talk is worth it alone.

Now to get some of the techniques into production ....and catch up on the
sleep!

Wait wait, yes I can just feel some jetlag coming on ;-)
Was reading your blog and looks an interesting experience, but going to
the states sounds a bit expensive.
