I have found that Python is very similar to VFP in many ways. I am just getting started, but I have already converted a couple of production routines to Python. They even run quite a bit faster in Python.
One advantage (IMO) that Python has over VFP is that it is a more complete language. No need to buy third party software to accomplish something that VFP doesn't natively handle. Although if you want third party software to accomplish a task, there is probably one available. There are a lot of books available, tons of web sites and a whole lot of people willing to answer questions no matter what your skill level. Try it, you'll like it.
