He just received endorsement from Lieberman, The DeMoine Register and The New
Hampshire Union Leader. The Economist (December 8, 2007, pg 42) is pointing out
his qualifications:
"he is such a familiar figure that it is easy to forget how remarkable he is.
He fought heroically in Vietnam, spending more than five years as a prisoner of
ware, when many other politicians of his generation discovered, like Dick
Cheney, that they had 'other priorities'. He has repeatedly risked his
political career by backing unpopular causes."

"He was the first senior Republican to criticize George Bush for invading Iraq
with too few troops and the first to call for Donald Rumsfeld's sacking."

The article goes on to critique the other candidates:
Mr. Giuliani has lapses in judging character when he appointed Bernard Kerik as
commissioner as well as promoting him for the job of Homeland Security. Bernard
is turning out to be a typical thug and is under investigation.

Mr. Huckabee is an attractive candidate but woefully lacking in experience and
knows next to nothing about foreign policy and military affairs and his tax
plans are otherworldly. A debate with Hilary would be a rout.

Mitt Romney lags in national polls.

McCain is a Republican in good-standing. He feels that other Republicans have
betrayed Republican ideals. He fought against pork-barrel spending, enlarging
the government, fought for campaign financing reform, etc.
