Just read an article about geothermal energy research in the U.S. When the gas
lines several years ago were long, the U.S. drilled holes all over the United
States looking for likely geothermal sites and found some good prospects. But
when the price of oil fell, the government lost interest.

There is one company that purchased one site and is actually gearing up to
generate electricity from the steam created in a deep well. Some are estimating
that in the U.S. alone there are enough geothermal sites to provide all of our
electricity needs for the next 300,000 years. Current technology is available
for drilling deep wells and installing the pumps required. All we need is the
will to do it. It sounds like an intriguing idea; no pollution nor global
warming prospects.
