It must be wonderful to have the wisdom and insight to sit up in an ivory
academic tower and come up with statistics on whose death was preventable and
whose was not. You may take it as evidence that we need Hillarycare but I do
not.
There are cases where this may be true that deaths are preventable, but they
are not always systemic. Have you never heard of anyone ignoring medical
advice? Should we chalk those deaths up to a failure of the system or the
foolishness of the patient. Then again, conventional wisdom in medicine does
not always produce optimal results.
Unfortunately much scientific research today is tainted by personal and
organizational agendas that I would be hesitant to make any changes based on
any study without knowing something about the participants. In this case they
are mostly academics. They may be on target, or they may have the fantasy that
a health care system run to their specifications could overcome the unhealthy
lifestyles of many Americans.
I think the labeling of the US as an outlier in the statistics shows their
prejudice. Their numbers show the US with the highest number of deaths, but
only by a small percentage from the one immediately before it in the list.
Outliers have significant deviations, not small differences that could be
statiscally insignificant.
So, if it makes you feel good to bash the US on the basis of these numbers, go
ahead. Be as honest as you want to be.
